My dad has recently taken a shine to the horse racing industry. Don't get me wrong, he has always been a fan, but the last 8 months have been in overdrive. He rented a house in Ruidoso from Memorial Day to Labor Day in order to spend as much time as needed at the track learning the ins and outs of the racing industry, and of course, soaking up all the cool weather possible.
It's not too often that my husband and I get to escape for a few days at a time. Work, horses, dogs, baby calves, and countless other chores keep us pretty tied down to our little home place, so when we saw the chance to take advantage of a few days of cooler weather and rest and relaxation we took it! We loaded up with family and friends and made the 450 mile voyage to Ruidoso, NM.
The next four days were spent in the casino, walking around downtown, enjoying the cool mountain air, racing go-carts, riding scooters, scaling the top of the mountain, horse races, and more go-carts. Good food, good times, good people, and lots of laughs.
While I didn't capture the ENTIRE trip (sit out on the go-cart races? Yeah right!), I did manage to get some pictures of the fun we had. Scroll through and see our drive to the top of the mountain, the scars left from the fire that recently tore through the area, the bare ski slopes, the view from the top, and the horse races and all that it entails.
